As someone who isn’t originally from London and whose first job wasn’t in the charity sector, I know what it is like to be without lots of sector connections in this busy, fascinating and at times overwhelming city.
So, I am very pleased to share the news with you that there is a new group that I think it’s worth you joining.
It has been set up by Mary Dobson, who kindly asked me to be an Advisor for the group.
The LinkedIn group is here– it launched yesterday and there’s been a great take-up already. I’ve started a thread on there where you can introduce yourself to the group, which I hope will be useful.
Here is the group’s profile:
‘LYCP is a membership body. We currently organise monthly First Thursday networking drinks and in the future will offer opportunities to hear from expert speakers, attend training sessions, workshops and other events. A wide variety of attendees are welcome to networking events, with no joining requirements apart from classing yourself as a London-based ‘Young Charity Professional’.
LYCP First Thursday drinks don’t have any set introductions, speeches or games to take part in. We don’t actively encourage card swapping and ‘enforced networking’, leaving it up to you to share details. LYCP is more about socialising and having a chance to meet like-minded people working in and around London in a friendly and non-pressured environment’.
Please have a look, join in and spread the word!
