A new audience for the message of diverse charity leadership

This week, I will be speaking at the Business 4 Better event. Held over two days at London Olympia, it is about fostering and enhancing links between the voluntary sector and business. Partners include NCVO, The Funding Network, KPMG and Social Enterprise UK.

There are speakers on topics such as partnerships, legal issues, using skills, using technology and comms issues, and many exhibitors.

Organisations I am familiar with who are speaking include Good People, NPC, The FSI, Trustees Unlimited, GiveMore, Third Sector, Plan UK, CAF and BWB.

The session I am involved with  is about getting young people onto Boards. I will be speaking alongside Andrea Cooper, CEO of UpRising and a Trustee of Street League, and Alex Godfrey, a young Trustee at Street League. I know both because I used to be a mentor for the UpRising programme (and continue to support it when I can) and I helped to train Alex when he joined the Street League Board. Plus the Chief Executive of Street League is my mentor!

I’m really excited at having the opportunity to bring this very important issue to a diverse audience. In order to get truly diverse Boards and diverse leadership of charities I have long argued that we need to step outside the sector and spread the message more widely, and Business4Better gives us the opportunity to do just that.
